Korean Traditional Natural Dyeing Technique


Natural dyeing color comes from the nature that you are surrounded by such as flowers, trees, grass, soil, bugs, seashells, etc. You can feel more comfortable to look at it as you can see nature because these natural pigments are all from mother nature It makes your mind calm and peaceful, and it also does not make your eyes tired.
Nature-friendly dyeing technique also minimizes pollution and provides a human-friendly product.  Therefore, many countries are trying to develop such technology and products as other trends of developing organic foods.
Korean traditional natural dyeing technique has a long history, even there were the government departments that controlled the technology and produced dyed fabric more than 2,000 years ago. It had been kept and developed, but it was almost disappeared by be popularized synthetic pigments after Korean War in 1950. From early 70's there was a small movement to restore it and it became modernized and got the attention of people.
Now there are many museums about the history and fabric products such as clothing, scarf, handkerchief, bags, pillow cover, etc of it and activities you can participate in.

-Yellow: Gardenia Yellow, Chinese Scholar Tree, Rhubarb, Onion Skin, Curcumin, Galnut
-Green: Chinese Scholar Tree
-Blue: Polygonum Indigo
-Purple: Logwood, Jicho
-Orange: Pomegranate
-Pink: Foots of Schisandra Chinensis
